Viacom18 posts revenue of Rs8.34 billion on back of colors


MUMBAI: Viacom18, the joint venture between global media giants Viacom and IBN18 Broadcast, has made a splash in the financial year ended 31 March 2010, all thanks to Colors.


The company, which also runs the youth entertainment channel MTV, kids channel Nick and international entertainment channel VH1, has posted income from operations of Rs 8.34 billion for the fiscal and other income Rs 22.9 million, taking its total income to Rs 8.36 billion for the fiscal.

 Viacom18's revenues would be in the Rs 8-8.5 billion range. This is also the company's first full fiscal progress report and thus the previous year figures are not reported.


The total expenses incurred by Viacom18 were at Rs 8.65 billion, out of which Rs 7.81 billion can be attributed to production, administration and other costs, and Rs 842.7 million to personnel expenses.


Interest and depreciation costs amounting to Rs 136.9 million saw the company end the financial year with a net loss of Rs 429.9 million.

On a quarter-to-quarter basis, the company has dropped in revenues from Rs 2.66 billion in Q3 to Rs 2.22 billion in Q4. This was accompanied by a drop in expenses from Rs 2.57 billion in Q3 to Rs 2.04 billion in Q4. However, the company still managed to increase its operating profit by 102.64 per cent (Rs 91.1 million in Q3 to Rs 184.6 million in Q4) and net profit by 172.47 per cent ( Rs 56.3 million in Q3 and Rs 153.4 million in Q4).on a quarterly basis. This indicates that the first two quarter losses of the company are still to be wiped off.
