Rajiv Agarwal

Mr Agarwal, an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad began his advertising career with Redifussion, co-founded Enterprise in 1983 and founded Nexus Equity in 1985. He was the Managing Director of Enterprise Nexus (a joint venture between Enterprise, Nexus Equity and the Lowe Group) from 1997 to 2001. Spearheaded Ogilvy’s Division of RMG David as Country Head & later was at the helm of affairs, at Bates as MD & CEO, Bates India. Mr Ragiv Agarwal is back in the Indian advertising again with Nexus Equity, a Mumbai based agency.

 

Rita Payne

Rita Payne The Asia Editor for BBC World TV was at the helm of the affairs for 29 years at the corporation. Born in the Indian state of Assam, Rita came to Britain in 1971 and started at the BBC’s World Service Radio News as a sub-editor. Prior to that she had worked as a freelance journalist.

When she joined the World Service newsroom, she was working among very few women and ethnic minorities. “For the first 10 or 12 years there wasn’t this new generation of British Asians who are now everywhere - they’re reporting, they’re at war, they’re outstanding, and they’re capable. In 1995 she joined BBC World TV as a producer of Asia Today and rapidly rose up the ranks to become its editor for Asia programming. She is still maintaining links as unofficial adviser to the Channel on Asia-related developments.” Rita has since been elected Chair of the Commonwealth Journalists Association and is proactive as ever.

 

Dr Jayaprakash Narayan

Dr Jayaprakash Narayan, a physician, joined the IAS in the aftermath of the Emergency and the failure of the Janata experiment. An IAS topper, he acquired a formidable reputation for social work in Andhra Pradesh in 16 years of public service. His experience in government convinced him that bad governance was the biggest problem in India. To translate his vision into reality, he quit the IAS in 1996, and formed Lok Satta, an organisation that has emerged as India’s leading civil society initiative for governance reforms. In 2006, he launched the Lok Satta Party, to create a new political culture and is its president.
